Traditional fiddle tunes from Hollis Taylor and Jon Rose: Hoedowns are archetypal violin music. Honed for generations by many hands and ears without wearing out, adjusting here and there at the edges, they fit the instrument like a glove. With many hoedowns, one scarcely wants to change a note. Others inspire a seemingly unlimited source of complex variations, a time-honored tradition in the Texas style of fiddling. Infidel is a tribute to this aural tradition; it is also a challenging musical experience, each hoedown having been placed in a new and sometimes radical sonic environment-from a singing dingo and an outback fence to a raging Mexican storm and a slurping Moscow water pump. 2006

Great Fences of Australia

A mesmerizing musical experience generated on the Great Fences of Australia. Many people look at fences and see not much; Jon Rose and Hollis Taylor look and see giant musical string instruments covering a continent. The music is in turns ethereal and elemental, from the First Grid at the Dog Fence to the Electric Fence at Lake Grace, the Rabbit-Proof Fence, the Trumpet Fence, the Rattle Fence, the Big Insect Fence--in total, twenty five fences appear on this CD. 2002.

The Crawl Ball

The Crawl Ball was inspired by the creepy, crawly bugs which haunted me during a residency in the Dominican Republic. Scored for two violins, bass, and percussion, the dance suite’s movements are: Tarantella de Chavon, Samba Beach Flies, La Cucaracha-cha-chá, and Mambo de Mosquito. 1998.
